Chapter 3 Assingment: Storage Devices and Manufacturers

Hard Drives: Seagate

Seagate is a company that primarily designs and manufactures hard drives that are both internal and external. They also produce specially designed hard drives for both laptops and desktops, as well as huge business size external drive to back up and secure data and set up networks. But it seems to me the majority of the items they sell and what they are known for are either the internal or external hard drives. They also sell a hard drive that will automatically backup your entire computer without installing any configuration or installation.

My favorite of their products is the “FreeAgent GoFlex Pro Ultra-portable Drive” which is a portable external hard drive. It has a very fast 7200 rpm 500GB hard drive and comes with pre-installed backup software to backup the computer. It also comes with a GoFlex adapter and cable, which is a system Seagate has designed for much faster transfer speeds. And this all comes in a very small black sleek case that I think looks great. I really like the features this system offers and have read a lot of great reviews about it, that is why it is my favorite Seagate product.

Flashdrive: PNY

PNY Technologies, Inc is a Brooklyn New York in 1985 and manufactures flash memory cards, USB flash drives, solid state drives, and computer memory upgrades, as well as professional graphics cards. What I found interesting about PNY is the large variety of flash drives they sell. Most companies sell no more than just a few types of flash drives but in a variety of colors and capacities But PNY sells ten different flash drives each with its different colors and capacities. They range from the simple 2GB flash drive to the XLR8 which is an 8GB high performance flash drive marketed to gamers and others relying on high speeds. This variety is very convenient and offers a lot of options for everyone to choose from.

The flash drive I would choose however is the most basic of the options. If I were to make a purchase from this company I would buy the Attache flash drive which is the basic model. Its biggest selling point to me was the capacity which is 32GB, this would be way to much memory if the only intended purpose file transfer and storage. But what i would would wanna use it for is music and movie storage to my car stereo which has a USB port on the front plate. It also comes with a free HD movie download which is just a nice bonus to top it off.

CD/DVD Writer/Player: Samsung

Samsung is the worlds largest corporate conglomerate and is one of the worlds largest electronics manufacturers. They are one of the largest manufacturers of televisions, computer monitors, cell phones, cameras, and refrigerators. They are even a very large producers of large shipping boats. But they do not neglect the smaller products they also sell projectors, dvd players, digital photo frames, and microwaves. And of course the optical disk drives which read and write data onto CD and DVD disks.

The disk drive I would choose if i were looking to buy one I would purchase the SH-B083A. It reads and writes both CD and DVD disk types and reads and writes the data very quickly. But why I like it the most is because it also reads Blu-ray disks so i would be able to watch Blu-rays on my computer. Another feature is has that i like it the appearance which is far better that the majority of grey disk drives that are on the market, it is a slim glossy black front with a light up emblem on the cover.
